GOURDS FROM THE GARDEN
    FALL 2006 NEWSLETTER
Here we are once again with another season approaching. I'd
like to welcome the many new members of the mailing list
recently and hope you will find something useful from each
one. My mind wonders now to the fast approaching holidays.
Are you ready?
Busy hands have happy hearts!
What's been happening in the gourd world?

The 2006 Gourd Art festival held at Welburn's Gourd Farm in CA was also
held in July and you can see some of the photos from it by clicking
here.
Someday in my life I've got to get to this festival!!!!
                  NEW PIECES
Here's what I've accomplished lately. Tried my hand at coiling with
seagrass and must say it was different. I actually liked it a lot. You can
click each photo to enlarge.

The seagrass is on a huge roll and is a continuing supply
unlike keeping the bundle of pine needles in a guage.
If interesting in trying, you can order it through

                    HORSEHAIR POTTERY
It's said that horsehair pottery started with Acoma
Pueblo. A  potter's wife was standing over their pit fire and a few
strands of her hair fell on a pot and burned into the surface leaving a
curly, carbon marking. He knew he'd be in trouble cutting his wife's hair
so the next best thing was to use hair from a horse's tail. No two are ever a like and
they are truly beautiful pieces of pottery.
Here's a picture of the real thing.                    Here's a picture of my version
                                                                         you can click to enlarge

Of course mine is Faux on a gourd

If you'd like to try this on a gourd, I've created a tutorial packet that  you can
order with 3 color photos, step-by-step instructions, and supply list.

                What's in store for fall?
This time of year is a busy one for a lot of gourders.
With shows, festivals and the holidays fast approaching. Fall is a good time for
gourds, it's a time for harvest for some, but also a good seller for others.
