LET'S BEGIN
Begin by transferring the pattern to your gourd using the transfer paper. You may need to reduce or
enlarge the pattern to fit your particular gourd.
Base coat the apples with tomato red using the #8 filbert brush, let dry and repeat.
Base the sliced apple center with buttermilk. Let dry, repeat.
Base coat the sunflower center with dark chocolate with the #4 filbert.
Highlight the sunflower center toward the top with golden straw.
Base the center of the daisies with golden straw using the #4 filbert.
Then shade on the bottom side with honey brown, and highlight the top area with buttermilk.
Shade bottom and right side of apple slice with black plum using the #6 filbert. (dip
brush into easy float then one corner into the paint, work into the brush on the palette). You can work
the shading longer using the easy float. Using the same brush and technique shade the left of the
center apple, also make a slight curve for the stem indention. Next go to the right apple and shade
the bottom and next to the center apple. Also make a curve for the apple stem. Remember to work
from the outside toward the inside as you shade.
Highlight the sliced apple in the center with santa red using a dry brush method. (dip the scruffy brush
into the paint then wipe most off on palette then gentry paint).
Do the same for the center apple in the middle and the laying apple center.
Highlight again with same method using buttermilk and do the sliced apple on the left side and a little
in the center top area, the laying down apple on the top side.
Next, using the #3 round brush paint the petals on the daisies with buttermilk, remember to begin the
petal at the top and pull toward the center of the flower. Let dry and repeat with light buttermilk,
making the petals over lap a little, then once again with warm white. Now add a very faint wash to the
daisies with tomato red.
(dip round brush into a mix of tomato red and water-VERY thinned). Gently wash over petal here and
there. Ever so slightly. You just want a hint of color.
Paint the sunflower petals using golden straw and the #4 filbert. Begin at the center of the flower and
pull to outward bringing to a tip. Repeat process, but double load your brush-one corner in golden
straw and the other in honey brown keeping the honey brown to the bottom of each petal.
Base the apple stems with honey brown using the #4 filbert, using the same brush shade the bottom
of the stems with dark chocolate and a drop of easy float. (refer to shading of apple for technique).
Highlight top side of the stems with a dry brush of buttermilk. (see dry brushing in apples).
Paint the leaves with celery green and the #6 filbert. Let dry. Then double load the brush the celery
green and hauser green dark and paint with the darker shade to the bottom of the leaf.
When all is dry, varnish your entire piece, let dry and repeat.
This pattern would look great on many other surfaces, I'd love to see your finished piece.
